Xavier University ACG Cup Team Advances
On January 25, 2011, twenty Xavier University MBA students competed in the preliminary round of the Association for Corporate Growth Cincinnati (ACG) Cup. Groups presented their cases to six judges: Thomas Clark, Xavier professor of Management and Entrepreneurship; Timothy Kruse, Xavier assistant professor of Finance; David Randolph, Xavier assistant professor of Accountancy and Business Law, Clint Schertzer, Xavier associate professor of Marketing, Julie Cagle, professor of Finance, Nick Spicher, Controls Analyst with Procter & Gamble and Adam Morton, associate with Kennedy Management Company. Twelve students advanced to the second round on January 26 and presented to six additional judges from the Tri-State business community: Joe Rippe, partner with Rippe & Kingston; Don Feldmann, president of Rippe & Kingston Capital Markets; Tim Mooney, vice president of Operations at St. Xavier High School; Dave Engel, principal with The Malibu Group, Mike O’Grady, member of Frost Brown Todd and Aric Hassel, vice president of The Bank of Kentucky.
The Xavier MBA team of Rudhir Patil, Xiaoxing Liu, John Safley, and Ting-Yu (Alex) Chang (pictured) won round one of the competition. Their 30-minute presentation addressed the valuation of a privately-held information technology firm and strategic issues related to the sale and integration of the company with an acquiring firm. This team will advance to the ACG Cincinnati Cup finals on February 23, 2011 at Miami University.
Other Xavier MBA students participating in the competition were: Barrett Chapman, Michael Chaulk, Rank Dawson, Jacob Geglein, Dan Hummel, Mike Keneipp, Yu-Ruei Liu, Hamir Mahajan, Chris Robbins, John Schutte, Jay Shanbhag, Manoj Srivastava, Rick Stumpf and Scott Tungseth. Additional coaches and coordinators were James Pawlukiewicz, professor of Finance, Rebecca Luce, assistant professor of Management and Entrepreneurship, Brent Rippe, vice president of Rippe& Kingston and Teresa Summe-Haas, MBA Advisor at Xavier University.
The Association for Corporate Growth Cincinnati established the ACG Cincinnati Cup, a highly realistic private equity/investment banking case study. Students gain real world experience and invaluable insight into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advising, and private equity. The competition provides students a unique opportunity to present strategic advice to a panel of professionals from within the ACG community. ACG will present a total of $9,500 in awards to four winning teams of MBA students representing the top MBA programs in the greater Cincinnati area. Competing teams are from Northern Kentucky University Haile/US Bank College Business, Miami University Richard T. Farmer School of Business, University of Cincinnati College of Business, and Xavier University Williams College of Business.
