Xavier University Responds to Haitian Earthquake
01/13/10
On Tuesday evening, a major earthquake hit Haiti, devastated the capital, and left countless dead. The Xavier University community is responding to this tragedy by supporting Catholic Relief Services (CRS). CRS is well-established in Port-Au-Prince, has strong ties with domestic development organizations, and is committed to supporting both immediate relief services and the necessary long-term rebuilding and development processes.
Xavier has connections with Haiti that have been established through various academic initiatives and the first-year common reading program, amongst others. Additionally, the United States has significant historical and political ties with Haiti, the poorest nation in our hemisphere.
Xavier is inviting students, staff, faculty and alumni to consider making a financial contribution to the relief and rebuilding efforts. Online tax-deductible donations can be made at www.crs.org <http://www.crs.org>.
