Xavier Professor Receives Award for Teaching
Ida Critelli Schick, Ph.D., FACHE, Professor and Chair/Director of the Graduate Program in Health Services Administration at Xavier University, has been selected as the recipient of the 2009 Teaching and Advising Award from the ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives) for Ohio. She will be presented the award at the ACHE breakfast during the Ohio Hospital Association annual meeting in Columbus on June 15th at 7:00 am.
Schick has been a faculty member in the department at Xavier since 1992 and chair/director since 1998. She earned her doctoral and master’s degrees in philosophy from Marquette University and a master of science degree in health planning and administration from the University of Cincinnati.
Her areas of specialization and research are privacy and confidentiality in the health information systems, ethics committees, and ethical foundations of leadership. She is a frequent speaker on ethical issues in health care both locally and nationally. She serves as ethicist for Mercy Health Partners of Southwestern Ohio, is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and a member of the ACHE Southwestern Region Regent’s Advisory Council. Schick is a member of the board of trustees for the Bioethics Network of Ohio, a member of the editorial advisory committee of Health Progress, the journal of the Catholic Health Association, and a member of the editorial board of the on-line journal, the Journal of Health Administration Ethics. She is active in a number of other professional organizations.
