Grad Damon Jones to keynote MLK events

Damon D. Jones, External Relations Leader for the United Kingdom and Ireland for Procter & Gamble, graduated with honors from Xavier in 1997 with a BA in Communication Arts (Broadcast Journalism) and a minor in Business Administration. He will return to Xavier January 22 at 4:00 pm in the Clock Tower Lounge of the Gallagher Student Center for a free presentation on the meaning of “Living the Legacy” of Martin Luther King, Jr. is to him in relation to this year’s historical presidential race. Jones served as president of Xavier’s Student Government Association for two terms and took a leave of absence from P&G in 2008 to serve as communications director for the 2008 Democratic National Convention. This included message strategy, development and delivery for more than 15,000 members of the media during Convention week, as well as managing media in the lead-up to the largest and most watched political Convention on record. He was responsible for a broad range of scenario planning, issue management and crisis preparation responsibilities requiring strong coordination with numerous political groups, government officials and private sector organizations.
Jones has held a variety of strategic communications roles during his nearly 12 year career at P&G and is recognized internally and externally for creating innovative communications programs, developing strong corporate / community partnerships and effective crisis prevention and management. His community involvement includes service on the Board of Directors of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and as a member of the Boards of Trustees of Xavier University and the Greater Cincinnati Television Education Foundation. Jones was the youngest appointee to Cincinnati’s Mayoral Task Force on Race Relations. He also served as a member of the City of Cincinnati Human Services Advisory Commission. Jones has been recognized by the Cincinnati Business Courier as one of “Forty under Forty” rising business professionals and has spoken on leadership at numerous seminars and conventions.
