Xavier’s Web Services Department presented at a Higher Education Web Developers Conference in Springfield, MO October 5-8. Web designer Kat Hollowell and web producer Kevin Bischoff presented “Web Services for Web Services,” web developer Rob Liesland and coordinator of web services Kevin Lavelle spoke on “Feeding the Hand that Feeds You: Supporting Enrollment Efforts”  and director of web services Doug Ruschman participated in a Web Manager’s Roundtable and was the marketing/management/professional development track chairperson. Over 400 web employees from around the country participated in the conference.

 

The Division of Information Resources presented at the annual SunGardHE Education Technology Association (SETA) midwest region conference Oct 5-7 in Dallas. Over 300 people from 85 SunGard regional client institutions attended to learn about using Banner and the Luminis portal products. Allen Cole, registrar, presented 2 sessions showing various aspects of the Degree Evaluation at Xavier. He served as a facilitator for 2 other open discussion sessions and served on the conference planning committee as the chairperson to coordinate all the Luminis portal sessions given at this conference. Doug Riga, DBA/Portal Administrator, presented 2 sessions - "Luminis Database Schema Unplugged" and "Banner-Luminis Integration for Dummies".

 

Byron White, Associate Vice President of Community Engagement at Xavier, has had his paper “Sharing Power to Achieve True Collaboration: The Community Role in Embedding Engagement” accepted into a comprehensive compendium of resources on partnerships between community organizations and higher education. The office of Community-University Partnerships at Portland State University's Center for Academic Excellence has compiled a resource of over forty books, articles, reports and monographs that contribute to the expanding scholarship of partnerships. They say White’s work is “a clear fit in the expanding literature on partnership building.” Portland State University intends to make the interactive literature review document public in early November, via the Center for Academic Excellence website: http://www.pdx.edu/cae.

 

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Xavier’s Division of Mission & Identity received a grant from the Lilly Fellows Program in the Humanities and Arts for a mentoring to begin in August 2009. The “Xavier Peer Mentoring Program for Faculty” (XPMP) builds upon the success of Ignatian Mentoring Program supported by Lilly in 2004. The XPMP invites faculty who are in their 6th – 8th year to reflect upon Ignatian principles in their teaching, scholarship and personal lives. Group conversations in the second half of the year will contribute to the production of an educational DVD for use by the entire Xavier community and beyond. Gillian Ahlgren, Ph.D. will serve as program coordinator.
