Xavier Students Raise Over $15,000 in Fight Against Cancer

04/28/08

Xavier University students raised more than $15,000 for cancer research during The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life on the University campus. The 18-hour event themed, “Holidays,” took place on the University’s green space from 6 p.m. Friday, April 18 through noon  Saturday, April 19. This event was a celebration of cancer survivorship and raised funds for cancer research, education, advocacy and service.

This year’s Relay brought out over 200 participants on a beautiful weekend. Team members took turns walking or running on a track on the green space. Xavier's Dance Team also put together an event with Loreal's Beautiful Lengths, an organization that turns donated hair into wigs, and had three professional hair stylists come out to Relay.  In total, 24 ponytails were donated to beautiful lengths.

The American Cancer Society is the leading nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
