Xavier Students Seek to Raise Money and Awareness in Fight Against Cancer

33 teams - $33,000 is the goal

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life takes place on Xavier University’s campus beginning on Friday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m. and continuing through Saturday, April 19 at noon.  The event celebrates cancer survivorship and raises funds for cancer research, education, advocacy and service. The theme for this year’s 18-hour event is “Holidays.” Each team will represent a different holiday. Activities throughout the Relay will incorporate the theme, such as a New Year’s countdown to finish one of the laps, an Easter egg hunt, and other fun ideas. Relay for Life is open to the public.

 

Relay for Life brings together teams from around the Xavier community, local businesses and families for camaraderie, food, music and entertainment and a night under the stars. Team members take turns walking or running on a track located on the green space in front of the Gallagher Student Center. A number of student bands will entertain on the Greenspace. At 10:00 p.m. on Friday, a luminaria ceremony will honor those who have suffered from cancer. A full schedule of events is attached.

 

The goal of this year’s Relay is to have at least 33 teams participate and to raise at least $33,000 for the American Cancer Society. Participants have a chance to win prizes and giveaways. Individuals can participate for a $10 fee and teams can enter for a $100 registration fee. Any cancer survivors wishing to participate pay no fees.
