Xavier University students always know how to have fun. Now it is official. Eight Xavier students advanced from the regional competition for RooftopComedy’s 1st Annual National College Comedy Competition. Launched February 13, it is traveling to 32 colleges across the country searching for the Country's Funniest College Student. The students below comprise the Xavier team which will advance to regional competition against a team from Ohio State on April 9:

  • Zack Berger, junior from Littleton, MA
  • Reid Faylor, sophomore biology major from Ft. Wayne, IN
  • Charles Galvin, junior English major business minor from West Chester, OH
  • Briana Hansen, senior from Indianapolis Philosophy, Politics and the Public honors major with minors in history, theatre and Spanish

“The people running the competition said they were very impressed with each comedian and the caliber of the comedians at Xavier,” team member Briana Hansen said.

The Xavier 8 will compete against the Ohio State 8 on Wednesday, April 9 at Go Bananas Comedy Club.  Each comedian will get five minutes.  The sets will be podcast and recorded and a panel of judges and viewers will rank entrants. Out of the 16, just one will be the "regional finalist." That person’s recorded set will be put up on the website RoofTopComedy.com and, for the next month or two, people will go online to view all the regional finalists and vote on their favorite.  Of those, four move on to a free trip to Aspen to be part of a larger comedy festival, from which one will be named the winner and receive $1,500.
