Xavier International Students’ Society Sponsors WorldQuest 2008

7th International Trivia Competition

On Friday, February 22 at 6:30 p.m., Xavier University’s office of International Student Services and the International Students’ Society are sponsoring an international trivia game for the campus community called WorldQuest. Teams of eight will gather in the Cintas Center Banquet Room for ethnic food, entertainment, fellowship, competition and prizes.

 

WorldQuest originated at the World Affairs Council in Charlotte, NC and was brought to Cincinnati by the local WAC in May of 2001. Historically, WorldQuest allows students, faculty and staff to interact across cultural, racial, and ethnic lines, forge connections and begin conversations in an informal setting. The goals of Xavier’s WorldQuest competition are to increase international understanding, to raise funds for study abroad and international grants, and to create an enjoyable community event that brings together a diverse group of people. Questions relate to geography, current affairs, pop culture, politics, people, world traditions, arts, flags, etc. This is the seventh year that Xavier has participated.

 

Senior business major, Shigeki Tanabe is excited about the growth in WorldQuest’s popularity.  In past years, he has recruited his economics and marketing professors to participate in the event.  “WorldQuest is a really fun opportunity for students to interact with faculty and staff and gain knowledge in the process!” Tanabe says.

 

International education is essential in breaking down stereotypes and increasing cross cultural communication and appreciation.  Events like WorldQuest broaden intercultural and international knowledge and awareness, often a first step in promoting peace and understanding.
