02/06/08

Emmy-winner Jeff Corwin will visit Xavier University on Wednesday, February 20 to give a presentation in connection with his latest CNN documentary, entitled Planet in Peril: Environmental Threats of the 21st Century.  Corwin will speak from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Cintas Center Banquet Room on the Xavier campus. His talk will be followed by a book signing.

Planet in Peril takes viewers on an around the world examination of our world's changing environment.  Planet in Peril has contributed to the spread of knowledge about global warming, animal extinction, and dangerous practices that are negatively affecting our planet.  Teaming up with CNN Reporters Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Corwin traveled to some of the most remote and remarkable places of the world.  Their collective field research exposes everything from illegal wildlife trading in Southeast Asia to witnessing the devastating effects of deforestation in Brazil.

Host of The Jeff Corwin Experience on Animal Planet, Corwin has been working for the conservation of endangered species and ecosystems around the world since he was a teenager.  Corwin's aim is to educate audiences about conservation for future generations through awareness of natural resources, wildlife, and ecosystems that make up our planet.  His lecture encourages listeners to pay attention to our actions today, so that our world can have a better tomorrow. His first book, Living on the Edge: Amazing Relationships in the Natural World from Rodale Publishing, is now in paperback.

Corwin's talk reminds us that none of these problems are happening in a vacuum.  All of them are interconnected and we all have our own role to play if our planet is to be saved from peril.
