Connect Cincinnati Streetcar Conference Rescheduled
UTN to take issue to various venues
10/24/07Cincinnati City Council continues to discuss the proposed downtown streetcar loop. On October 16, the City Manager outlined funding sources for the streetcar loop to the economic development committee of City Council. The committee voted unanimously to ask the City Manager to refine his recommendation and report back to City Council by November 13th.
Because discussions about key elements of the streetcar proposal are still being discussed and the City Council elections are near at hand, the Urban Transit Network has decided to reschedule the Connect Cincinnati Streetcar Conference, originally scheduled for November 3. No new date has been set.
The Urban Transit Network (UTN) plans to continue to promote public dialogue over the next few months through several venues including meeting with neighborhood-based groups and interested organizations, open meetings, and maintaining an up-to-date web site (www.UrbanTransitNetwork.com) that people can access to get information about the progress of the street car proposal and participate in an online discussion.
“UTN believes this effort, accomplished on more personal and local scale, will be more constructive than a conference as the key components of the proposal become clearer and the newly elected Council is in place,” says Xavier junior and UTN co-founder David Ben.
The goal of the UTN is to promote a broad-based, well informed public discussion about the streetcar proposal.
