Applied Physics/Engineering
The engineering/applied physics program at Xavier provides students with a strong foundation of knowledge ranging across all engineering disciplines. This program consists of three years of study at Xavier followed by a fourth year at the University of Cincinnati School of Engineering. One can also decide to stay at Xavier for their fourth year. For a look at Xavier's four-year Applied Physics/Engineering Program, click here.
Student in this program must complete the Xavier core curriculum and take 12 hours of program electives beyond the physics requirements listed below. Choice of program electives depends upon the student’s interest. They must also take PHYS 398, Senior Thesis. Typical program electives are in biology, chemistry, computer science, and/or mathematics, but courses may be taken in other areas too. Specific programs are designed in consultation with the chair. To strengthen and broaden the background of all Xavier students, a liberal arts core curriculum is also a part of the program.
This cooperative program is designed for students who wish to continue their education in some field of engineering and can ultimately lead to a master's degree in aerospace engineering, civil and environmental engineering; mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering; engineering science; industrial, or material science.
Xavier graduates from this program have continued engineering studies with full-tuition scholarships and grants at a variety of graduate schools, including University of Cincinnati, Stanford, Ohio State, Purdue, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Carnegie-Mellon.
