Visit the new Peace & Justice Resource Center Monday thru Friday from 1 - 5PM located in the Gallagher Student Center Rm. 332. There are both print and electronic resources presenting current volunteer project needs, possible community partners, and programs you can join like ConneXions, STAR, Community Action, and the list goes on!
Additionally, you may want to check out one of the many Service and Justice Clubs/Organizations (pdf) on the Xavier Campus.
*Peace and Justice provides information regarding the service projects, but it is up to the individual student to contact the organization hosting the service project, unless you decide to enroll in one of our signature programs
ConneXions 1
This community service and building program primarily for first-year students offers weekly volunteer opportunities along with a chance to build friendships while learning to make positive changes in society. The program is one semester long and focuses on direct service, reflection, and getting to know Cincinnati from the perspective of non-profit organizations in the city and the people with whom they work. ConneXions 1 takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays (choose one) from 3-5:30 PM. Habitat for Humanity
Focusing on the alleviaton of affordable housing, Xavier Habitat build and sponsors simple, decent housing in Cincinnati. Two local houses have been completed by XU's Habitat for Humanity chapter. Contact habitat4humanity@xavier.edu to learn when and where the group has it's weekly, work project.
X-Action
X-Action is the largest community service organization on Xavier’s campus. Run by students, for students, X-Action aims to connect students with one time and on-going opportunities to engage with the surrounding community through four distinct outreach programs:
- Students Taking Active Roles (STAR): more than 20 sites available for weekly community service opportunities. Students are asked to commit to attending the same site on the same day and same time throughout the semester. Sign-ups at the start of each semester. - Community Action Day: university-wide opportunity to engage in a morning of service with fellow students and staff offered once a semester with groups assisting at more than 30 sites across the region.
