Peace & Justice Student Clubs

  • Xavier Alliance - provides a safe environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual students to meet and encourage mutual understanding and support among all members of the Xavier community.

    Alterrnative Break Trip to Mexica
  • Alternative Breaks Club - provides service opportunities in various communities in the United States and abroad during spring break and other times of the year.

  • APEX – Animals, People, and the Environment at Xavier aims to educate the community about animal rights and create awareness about issues in animal rights and responsible food choices.

  • EARTH Coalition  - raises environmental awareness and promotes action to green Xavier's campus and the broader Cincinnati community. 
  • Habitat for Humanity - in an effort to alleviate poverty housing in our city, Xavier Habitat for Humanity builds and sponsors simple decent housing in Cincinnati. Two local houses have been completed by XU's Habitat for Humanity.
  • Shantytown – a weeklong program that raises awareness surrounding the issues of homelessness, sponsored cooperatively by many campus organizations. With speakers, action, reflection, and community building, it is a thought provoking series of events.

  • Students for Economic Justice - focusing on education and action, this club promotes trade practices to support human dignity, economic justice, and international solidarity by building awareness about unjust labor practices, ethical investment, and corporate responsibility to the campus community.
  • Students for Life - following a consistent ethic of life, the club seeks to engage the community in dialogue and action concerning those society deems less valuable. Students for Life speaks out on behalf of the unborn, poor, handicapped, elderly, and the condemned through service, education, and an engaging Life Week.
  • SNAC – provides students an opportunity to advocate with and for individuals with disabilities.

  • Stand XU – works to raise awareness around conflicts in Sudan and Darfur. In addition to educational events, Stand XU does fundraising for humanitarian groups working in Sudan.

  • Voices for Democracy - aims to promote political advocacy through letter writing on a variety of topics of concern.

  • Voices of Solidarity - focusing on peace issues in Latin America, VOS commits itself to be a voice for the unheard. By uniting in solidarity with the many victims of injustice, VOS offers educational, cultural, and service experiences celebrating and supporting the people of this region.

  • Youth Empowerment Network – empower the next generation as agents of social change and raise awareness of the needs of children throughout the world.

     

Dorothy Day House Club Coalition Membership Agreement

  • Central to the mission of each club is the intent to work toward the betterment of society through active service and/or the pursuit of social justice. The values and actions of each club will be consistent with the mission of Peace & Justice Programs and of Xavier University.
  • We at Dorothy Day House embrace nonviolent response to conflict and non-violent action for social change. The dignity of every person, for or against us, must consistently be honored in every act in which we engage ourselves.
  • We commit ourselves to ongoing reflection, keeping an open mind and welcoming stance here at Xavier. This includes fostering an environment where new participants feel welcomed and included.
  • Our clubs are to serve as active members in the Dorothy Day House coalition, seeking opportunities to collaborate with other clubs and supporting the programming of Peace and Justice Programs.
  • We will use discretion in our scheduling of speakers and events, as well as in carrying out our club activities. We recognize that our actions are a reflection of the Dorothy Day House community and Xavier University, and we will consult and discern with one another when it is appropriate, doing our best to use good judgment.
  • Dorothy Day House Coalition members take pride in our home, respecting the regulations of our facility.
