Benjamin D. Urmston Family Peace Studies Scholarship

for Incoming Xavier Freshmen

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

1.      This scholarship is awarded based on two equal criteria: 1) academic excellence  2) evidence of the integration of  the ideas and values of peace and justice studies with activities outside the classroom.

2.      The typical value of the scholarship is $1000 (though the value can vary slightly from year to year.) The scholarship is not renewable, but recipients are eligible to apply for a scholarship for continuing Peace Studies minors in subsequent years.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1.      The applicant must be entering Xavier University as a full-time undergraduate student in the Fall of 2009.

2.      The applicant must enroll in the Peace Studies program during their first year at Xavier.

3.      During the year of the award, the applicant must take at least one Peace Studies course.

DOCUMENTATION TO BE PROVIDED BY THE APPLICANT

1.    Complete the application below.

2.        Submit a current academic transcript. 

3.     Request two or three letters of recommendation, at least one from a teacher and one from a co-curricular moderator.  The references should send these letters directly to Dr. John Sniegocki, Department of Theology, Xavier University, 3800 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45207-4442.

4.     Include other materials, if any, which show your academic and co-curricular commitment to the ideals and values involved in working for peace and justice.

5.     Submit the application and all attached documents to Dr. John Sniegocki, Department of Theology, Xavier University, 3800 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45207-4442. The Xavier University Peace Studies Committee will make the final decision concerning scholarship recipients.
