Benjamin D. Urmston Family Peace Studies Scholarship for Xavier Students

2009-2010 applications are due by Friday, January 30th, 2009.

CRITERIA FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP

  1. Academic excellence, including a GPA of at least 3.40.
  2. The second and equal criterion is the manner and degree to which the applicant integrates the ideas and values of peace and justice studies with activities outside the classroom.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS

  1. You must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at Xavier University.
  2. You must be currently enrolled in the Peace Studies minor and must either (a) be registered for an accredited Peace Studies course, or (b) have completed at least one accredited Peace Studies course.
  3. During the year of the award, if you have not completed the Peace Studies minor, you must either (a) complete it, or (b) take at least one course each semester toward completion.

DOCUMENTATION TO BE PROVIDED BY THE APPLICANT

  1. Provide the information requested in the "Personal Information" and "Applicant Personal Statements" sections below.
  2. Submit a current academic transcript from the Registrar’s office.
  3. Request two (or more, if you wish) letters of recommendation. At least one of the letters should be from a professor who is familiar with your Peace Studies interests. The second letter can be from another professor or from someone else familiar with your justice and peace involvement. The referees should send these letters directly to Dr. John Sniegocki, Department of Theology, Xavier University, 3800 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45207-4442.
  4. Submit other materials, if any, showing how you manifest the ideas and values of the Peace Studies program and integrate them into activities outside the classroom.

  5. Submit all documents to Dr. John Sniegocki, Department of Theology, Xavier University, 3800 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati OH 45207-4442, or bring them to the faculty services desk on the first floor of Hinkle Hall and ask for the documents to be placed in Dr. Sniegocki's mailbox. The Peace Studies Committee (excluding the student members) will make the decision awarding the scholarships.
