Tips for Living Off Campus
Is your son or daughter looking to find housing off campus? If so, encourage him or her to attend the spring Off-Campus Housing Fair being held Thursday, April 8, from 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 13, from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the Gallagher Student Center.
Moving off campus provides newfound freedom but also a great deal of responsibility. As such, you and your student are strongly encouraged to visit the Commuter Services and Off-Campus Living web site at http://www.xavier.edu/commuter/. On the site you will find property listings from area landlords and a section titled Moving Off Campus 101. The information in this section is designed to help students manage the responsibilities of moving off campus and, in general, ease the transition to off-campus living. The section includes information on managing finances, safety resources off campus, managing roommate relationships, what it means to be a good neighbor and the three steps of looking at a property off campus. Also included are a variety of helpful forms, such as an apartment or house inventory form, a budgeting spreadsheet, a roommate agreement and a lease checklist.
