Additional Tutors Hired at the Learning Assistance Center

The Learning Assistance Center is outpacing its own record for tutoring requests. With a few weeks still remaining in this semester, the center has so far received more than 640 tutoring requests compared with the previous record of 520 for the entire fall semester a year ago.

In order to meet the increased demand, the center has hired 11 new tutors whose specialties include anatomy and physiology, general chemistry, general biology, college physics, math, nursing, accounting, economics, finance, and business statistics.

Freshmen and sophomores are the most likely to request a tutor. Of the 640 requests to date this semester, more than 50 percent are from freshmen and about 30 percent from sophomores.

The new tutors, who have joined a tutoring staff of more than 70, include:

 In addition to one-on-one tutoring, the center offers drop-in sessions in music theory, Spanish, anatomy and physiology, and physics. A tutor is available for an hour or two each week and no advance registration is required. Students in the course only need to “drop-in” to the center ask questions and receive assistance.
