Free Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction Services

Whether your student is new or returning to Xavier, the Learning Assistance Center can help him or her achieve academic success.

The most popular service we at the LAC provide is tutoring. We have a staff of more than 50 tutors who assist students in most subjects offered at Xavier. Tutoring also is available in study skills, which includes time management, organization and test taking. Students may request a tutor at the LAC offices on the first floor of Kuhlman Hall or by submitting a request online at www.xu.edu/lac.

The LAC also facilitates supplemental instruction (SI) for traditionally difficult core science classes, including organic and general chemistry, general biology, as well as anatomy and physiology. For SI courses, a trained peer tutor attends the lecture class and facilitates study sessions that are open to all students.

View the SI session schedule for the spring semester.

The program has had resounding success. Students who attend SI sessions routinely do considerably better than those students who don't attend. If your student is enrolled in any of the core science classes mentioned above, please encourage them to attend the corresponding SI sessions.

Also this semester, the LAC will offer drop-in tutoring in Spanish, music theory and physics. View the schedule online.

In closing, we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of students with a documented disability that their student must complete paperwork for accommodations each semester. We already have sent several reminders to students but if you are interested in reviewing it with your student, the paperwork along with our testing policies are available for viewing online.

At Xavier, our goal is your student's success. Feel free to contact the LAC at 513-745-3280 if you have questions or would like additional information about tutoring or supplemental instruction services.
