Academic Support Programs

As parents of Xavier students, it is important for you to know what tools are available for their use. At Xavier, the Learning Assistant Center (LAC) is committed to helping students achieve academic success whether they are new or returning to the University.

One of the most popular services offered by the LAC is tutoring. The staff of more than 60 tutors assists students in almost every subject offered at Xavier. Tutoring is also available for those who need help with study skills. These students receive assistance with organization, time management and test taking. Tutors typically meet with students for one-hour sessions each week that are scheduled by appointment. Students can request tutors by visiting the LAC on the fifth floor of the Conaton Learning Commons, Room 514, or by submitting a request through the LAC website.

This semester, the LAC is offering drop-in tutoring for Spanish, music theory and physics. Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions are available for general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and anatomy and physiology courses. If your student is enrolled in any of these courses, please encourage them to attend the SI session for their class. View the complete SI sessions and drop-in tutoring schedule for spring.

If your student has a documented disability and is registered at the LAC, they must complete paperwork and review testing policies each semester in order to receive accommodations.

For more information, contact the LAC at 513-745-3280.
