Tutor Recruitment and Schedule

As the second half of the spring semester gets into full gear, the Learning Assistance Center continues to receive tutor requests for a variety of classes. To date, we have more than 410 one-on-one requests.

In planning for the upcoming school year, the LAC is currently accepting applications for tutors for the 2010-2011 academic year. We are hiring tutors in all subjects as well as supplemental instruction leaders in general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and anatomy and physiology.

To be a tutor, students must have good communication and people skills, a minimum GPA of 3.3 in the subjects tutored and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 19. The application is available online.

Please encourage your son or daughter to apply if they would like to share their knowledge and enjoyment of a particular subject with another Xavier student.

On the flip side, as your student reviews midterm grades, encourage him or her to ask for tutoring help to improve their standing, if necessary. The Writing Center in the basement of Alter Hall provides assistance to students in all aspects of the writing process. The Math Lab on the first floor of Hinkle Hall provides drop-in tutoring in any class from Math 105 through Math 171.

The LAC, on the first floor of Kuhlman Hall, provides one-on-one tutoring in most subjects, including drop-in help in Spanish, physics and music theory, as well as supplemental instruction in anatomy and physiology, general biology, general chemistry and organic chemistry. LAC also offers study skills assistance.

A schedule of drop-in tutoring and Supplemental Instruction sessions is available online.

Our goal is your student’s success. Feel free to contact the LAC at 513-745-3280 if you have any questions or would like additional information about our services.
