Recreational Sports: X-perience, Learn, Develop
by Leslie Dulle, Assistant Director of Recreational Sports
The Department of Recreational Sports has many programs and services we hope your first year student will get involved with. We are the home of the intramural sports program, club sports, informal recreation and fitness. All valid Xavier students have access to the O’Connor Sports Center. Students must present their valid student ID to access the facility.
Your student is entering a very exciting new chapter of their life as they begin their college career. We hope to make the transition a smooth and memorable one. Along with any new chapter in life come many exciting adventures and some that are stressful. Studies have shown that exercise helps relieve stress.
According to the Mayo Clinic staff, “By now, you should know that exercise does your body good. But did you also know that virtually any form of exercise can decrease the production of stress hormones and counteract the body’s natural stress response? It is true! The same regular exercise routine that helps prevent disease and builds muscle can also help you better manage stress.”
A regular exercise routine also helps develop the discipline for a healthy lifestyle. The Department of Recreational Sports offers group exercise programs to all Xavier students. The classes range from spinning, Turbokick, Zumba, water aerobics and yoga, just to name a few. Students can purchase an all-inclusive fitness pass that allows them to participate in any and all classes for the remaining 15 weeks of the semester. The pass is $75.00 and can be purchased at the O’Connor Sports Center or by calling 513-745-3209. We accept Visa, Master Card, cash and checks. However, we are unable to charge the fee to the bursar account.
