Freshmen Gear Up for First Year of College with Sendoff Receptions

The start of the fall semester still is a few weeks off but Xavier’s Class of 2014 is gearing up for its freshman year this month with sendoff receptions nationwide.

The receptions – held in 24 cities nationwide – are hosted by Xavier’s Parents Association and regional alumni chapters. Cities hosting receptions include Dallas, St. Louis, Buffalo, N.Y., Washington, D.C., Denver and Louisville, Ky.

“The sendoffs are a great opportunity for parents to get answers to any last minute concerns before their students head off to college,” says Dianne Fisk, executive director for the Office of Parent Relations.

The gatherings include incoming freshmen, current students, alumni, family and friends. Most are picnic-style barbecues at either a park or private home. The sendoffs began this month and continue through mid-August.

“Not only do new students get to mix and mingle with each other, they also get to know alumni from their hometowns,” adds Tom Brady, assistant director for alumni chapters.
