The Career Services Center has a variety of programs and events taking place early in the semester. Please encourage your student to take part in one or more of the following:
Career Prep Week: Jan. 25-28
Event: Last-Minute Internship Search Tips

Has your student put off their internship search until the last minute? If so, encourage him or her to get started by attending the Career Services Center's program on last-minute internship tips. It?s designed for students in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Social Sciences, Health, and Education.
Event: Developing a STAND OUT Résumé
Date: Wednesday, Jan. 27 Time: 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

The Spring Career Fair is right around the corner-is your résumé ready? This workshop offers tips for developing a résumé that catches an employer's attention by featuring skills and experience in a format that is easy to review while highlighting the qualities that make you a great job or internship candidate. Whether you are starting a résumé from scratch or fine-tuning one for the Career Fair, this workshop will help create a résumé that stands out.

With such a competitive job market, candidates need to be able to sell their skills and experiences anytime, anywhere. Uncensored
Event: "Uncensored," a professional development series for minorities

"Uncensored," a six-week professional development series for minorities, is designed to teach sophomores, juniors and seniors valuable workplace and networking skills. It?s not too late to apply. For more information, visit the "Uncensored" web site.
Employer Critiques
Employers from a variety of industries will be available to review student résumés and give expert advice. To participate, students should upload a current résumé and reserve a session online via Xavier's eRecruiting system at http://xavier.experience.com.

Professional Etiquette Dinner and Style Show
Event: Professional Etiquette Dinner and Style Show
Date: Monday, Feb. 8
Time: 5:00 p.m.
Location: Cintas Center
The Professional Etiquette Dinner, sponsored by Xavier Dining, Total Quality Logistics, and Macy's, will help students learn how to dine in a professional setting during a formal four-course meal presented by Mary Starvaggi of The Etiquette Advantage. The event concludes with a style show sponsored by Macy's. Participants will learn the differences among business casual, professional, and interview attire as modeled by Xavier students. Tickets cost $10 (cash or check) and are available at the Career Services Center, Gallagher Student Center, Room 310.
This program is wonderful preparation for the upcoming Spring Career Fair, interviewing for internships and full time jobs, as well as transitioning from student to professional.
Career Fair Prep and Networking Workshop
Event: Spring Career Fair Prep and Networking Workshop
Date: Tuesday, Feb. 16 Time: 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
Location: Gallagher Student Center, Room 214
- A variety of employers will be on hand to share tips for career fair success and assist students with networking basics. Topics to be covered include:
- Appropriate attire/grooming
- Importance of researching companies before the fair
- Preparing a list of relevant questions to ask employers
- Updating a résumé
- How to sell yourself to employers at a career fair/ how to practice your "pitch"
- How to approach a company/tips for how to begin talking with an employer at the career fair table and during networking opportunities
- How to network with food (logistics of holding a plate with food, eating, and talking with employers at a networking event)
Career Fair and Diversity Reception

Location: Cintas Center
The Spring Career Fair offers students from all majors the opportunity to meet with employers representing various non-profit, government, health care and business organizations. All students seeking full-time employment, internship or co-op experience, and/or summer job opportunities are invited to attend.

A diversity reception also will be held from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. This is a great networking opportunity for minority students to connect with others from diverse backgrounds and companies who embrace and support diversity.
Students should dress professionally and be prepared to speak with employers regarding job opportunities and career options.
