Food will be provided for all Guatemala 2010 participants from a variety of sources. Breakfast will be provided by our place of lodging, the Luthern Center; lunch will be of the prepared “packed/boxed” variety; and, dinner will vary. Some dinners will be served by the lodging host, some at a restaurant(s), and one night will likely be spent with Dick Rutgers of Hope Haven International & Bethel Ministries.
In addition to Dick Rutgers day job of “wheelchair seating specialist,” in the evening he has his own personal “house ministry” where he feeds 10-16 children from the neighborhood who come from families who are not present for dinner or who cannot afford dinner. Dick has invited all Guatemala 2010 participants to have a “pizza night” with him, so, for sure, one evening, the group will do just that - join Dick and his “kids” for pizza. Go to Dick’s website at www.dickrutgers.com to get to know him as not only will dinner be shared, but, he may accompany our group some days to the orphanages, too.
FYI, during the time in Guatemala, bottled water will be plentiful and available by way of large 5-gallon containers. Each Guatemala 2010 participant is asked to bring a personal water bottle with him/her (recommended size of at least 1 liter) so that each day it can be filled with a day’s supply of water. Avoidance of individual bottled water purchases will help save the environment and prolong the life of the Guatemalan landfills. |
