TRIP DETAILS > COMMUNICATION WITH HOME

Most American-purchased cell phones do not work in Guatemala. The trip leader will have an in-country cell phone available for emergency calls. The emergency phone number will be shared with all participants and be available via the Department of Occupational Therapy which will serve as “command central” for this initiative.

Guatemala 2010 participants may purchase cell phones at the airport but doing so is not necessary as daily updates will be emailed home to loved ones.

Each day (or at least every two days) a designated person will send an update to the secretary in the Department of Occupational Therapy who will then forward the email to all persons provided on the “email list.” Prior to departure each Guatemala 2010 participant will provide an “email list” that will include the email addresses of any/all family, relatives, friends, acquaintances for whom they want to receive the daily email. In that way, communication with home will occur.
