Tekeia Howard
Tekeia N. K. Howard has been the associate director of multicultural affairs and coordinator of African-American Greek life at Xavier University since 2002. Her position entails enhancing diversity initiatives, advising students of color, managing the development of African-American Greek life, and advancing gender-related issues in the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Xavier community. Prior to her position with Xavier, Ms. Howard worked for the Residence Life department at the University of Dayton as an area coordinator, from 2000 until 2002, and as a resident coordinator, from 1998 until 2000.
In 2000, she was an intern with the planning and zoning department of the City of Huber Heights in 2000. During her undergraduate and graduate careers, Ms. Howard was a freelance writer for the Trotwood Independent newspaper in Trotwood, Ohio, and a staff writer/tour organizer for the Dayton Art Institute.
Ms. Howard is a member of various professional organizations, including the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), American College Personnel Administrators (ACPA), the John D. O’Bryant National Think Tank, and the Women Institute for Leadership Development. Ms. Howard has been recognized as a dynamic leader in the Cincinnati and Dayton regions. She is a graduate of the Grassroots Leadership Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she participated in a community forum designed to enhance leadership skills among young professionals. She also received a scholarship to attend the Mid-Level Management Institute, sponsored by the Association of Fraternity Advisors. Active in her community, Howard is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a service sorority headquartered in Washington, D.C. She is also a member of the Women’s Club of Greater Cincinnati and serves as a board member on the Hyde Park school decision-making board.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Ms. Howard received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Ohio University in 1997. She received her Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Dayton in 2000. Howard enjoys cooking, reading, and healthy living. She and her husband, Aaron, reside in Cincinnati, Ohio.
