Meet Our Interns

Kurt Backer is a Sophomore Biology major from Saint Louis, Missouri. Kurt attended Saint Louis University High School. He recently joined the Xavier Birdwatching Club and also plays Ultimate Frisbee.   Kurt?s favorite class at Xavier has been General Chemistry.Kurt will be working with Breakthrough Cincinnati this summer.

Lexie Bolin is a Sophomore Biology student who enjoys Organic Chemistry and learning about the human body in General Biology. Lexie is involved in many activities including the Pre-Med Society and Biology Club. In her spare time, she volunteers at Evanston Academy as well as through Blue Mountain Project Volunteers Club. Lexie has also participated in the Alternative Breaks program, visiting Jamaica and West Virginia, providing services to communities in need. She tells us ?I am really looking forward to this summer, meeting tons of new people, and helping students learn some of my favorite subjects!? Lexie will be working with Boys Hope Girls Hope and M 2SE this summer.

Bri Davis is a Junior Applied Physics major, who is also pursuing a Classical Humanities minor. Bri is President, Recording Secretary, Historian, and Parliamentarian of the Pi Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, as well as being in the pep band. Bri enjoys sports, especially basketball, reading, working out, community service and sleeping.   Bri will be working with Boys Hope Girls Hope and M 2SE this summer.

Darci Meiners is a Sophomore Chemical Sciences major with a minor in Professional Education. Darci is also studying biology as she plans to obtain dual licensure in the subject areas of chemistry and biology at the high school level. She describes herself as ?the epitome of a science nerd? and even owns shoes with the periodic table on them. Currently, Darci is interested in studying the class Cephalopoda in her biology class. However, she says ?chat me up about almost anything involving science and you?ll have my attention. I love science and I love to share what I know with others.?

When not checking out specimens in the biology lab or spilling chemicals on herself in the chemistry lab, she enjoys playing intramural sand volleyball with her friends. She also enjoys a variety of community activities, including ZooMates, tutoring at Evanston Academy, ConneXions, serving meals at Parish Kitchen, and being a member of Xavier?s community-engaged fellowship. Off-campus Darci enjoys going to Cyclone?s games or grabbing a slice of LaRosa?s pizza. Darci tells us ?I am looking forward to what this summer has to offer as I get to spread my knowledge and love of science with students and spend time with like-minded STEM majors.?  Darci will be working with Breakthrough Cincinnati this summer.

Frank Ontaneda is a Junior Applied Physics Major at Xavier University. His favorite part about Physics is learning about kinematics and conservation of energy. He is also involved on campus as a player and Fundraising Coordinator for Xavier's club Ultimate Frisbee team. Frank can't wait to be teaching in the classroom this summer, especially math-related courses like linear algebra! Frank will be working with Boys Hope Girls Hope and M 2SE this summer.

Annie Szendrey is a Freshman double majoring in Mathematics and Economics and minoring in Computer Science. She particularly enjoys Biostatistics in her field of mathematical study.  She is a dancer at heart, but is in the process of training for an Ironman triathlon held in May in Houston, Texas.  As Vice-President of Mock Trial and President of her community council, Annie strives to make as much of a positive impact as possible on those around her.  Annie loves to laugh and smile and is incredibly excited to be a part of the Noyce Internship Program!  Annie will be working with Breakthrough Cincinnati this summer.
