Why would a life-long Cardinals fan move to Cincinnati?

To attend Xavier, of course!

Laura Cherre knew she wanted to go into a sports-related profession, and one visit convinced her she wanted to go to Xavier.

“I always grew up around sports, especially baseball," she says. "I’m going to have to get a job one day, so I should at least do something that’s fun.”

And that’s when she discovered the Sport Marketing major at Xavier. “They sent me something in the mail. I looked them up online and I thought, 'OK. Let’s try this'.”

Maybe the best part about attending Xavier is you’re part of the team.

One campus tour was all it took. “Once I went to visit, I ended up loving it.”

One big reason Laura chose Xavier was the opportunities to gain professional experience, and she took advantage of them. They included Xavier’s Sports Information Department, the Cincinnati Bengals, Kentucky Speedway and The Columbus Blue Jackets.

And just to add a little international flavor, Laura also studied abroad in Rome at the American Institute for Foreign Study.

These days, Laura’s back in St. Louis working as a senior account executive for the Cardinals. And while her heart is with redbird nation, her favorite memory of Xavier is being part of a team.

“The smaller classes were very helpful. Everyone had a great sense of community,” she says.
