Zumbiel demolition delayed yet again

Implosion date tentatively pushed back until the morning of January 19

A date has finally been set for the implosion of the Zumbiel Packaging Plant. Xavier is reasonably sure that the much anticipated event will take place in the early morning on Jan. 19. That date was moved back due to prep work, the holidays and the basketball season.

Lawsuit blasts Xavier officials

Finch and Michels call de Silva’s tenure as chair “autocratic, arbitrary and capricious”

A lawsuit filed by Dr. Tara Michels and Dr. Miriam Finch last week in U.S. District Court accuses Dr. Indrawansa de Silva of executing “a campaign to marginalize and discriminate against women in Communication Arts.”

Finch and Michels’ initial filing claims that they “were treated differently than their male colleagues in pay, terms, conditions and privileges of their employment at Xavier.” [full story]

Staff Editorial: Judge and jury

Let’s face it, this lawsuit is probably one of the most interesting things to happen at Xavier University in some time.

It’s not every day that you come across official documents that refer to your English professor as “a man known for his sexist beliefs,” or your COMM-329 professor as “a supporter of Machiavelli.” On a certain level, it’s enthralling to watch the ivory tower get a few black marks on it.

Nick Lachey’s choir at XU

Hometown hero Nick Lachey, lead singer for boy band 98º, brother of “Dancing with the Stars” phenom Drew Lachey and ex-husband of Jessica Simpson, is competing in NBC’s newest reality show: “Clash of the Choirs,” a four day special starting Dec. 17. 'Snow Queen' warms heart

Xavier Theatre Arts presented “The Snow Queen,” adapted by Jonathan Graham and based on the original by Hans Christian Anderson story. The play was performed Thursday, Dec. 6-9 in the Gallagher Student Center. The children-friendly play was very interesting and well put together. [full story]
