Shuttle stalled

Those involved with the Xavier shuttle recognize there are problems regarding its efficiency and timeliness, and are beginning to address these concerns. Currently, however, there does not seem to be a specific plan designed to solve these problems.

Dr. Luther Smith, Dean of Students, said he has heard complaints from students about the unreliability of the shuttle this year. He acknowledges its problems, and a shuttle committee is working to address these issues.

However, students have not been voicing their concerns to the Student Government Administration (SGA).

“We haven’t heard lots of complaints about the shuttle this year,” said Jennifer Downing, senate coordinator and member of the shuttle committee. [full story]

ROTC cadets participate in military science labs twice a week and physical conditioning three times a week.

Xavier ROTC: More than Soldiers

Matthew Finger and photographer Erika Bresee set out on November 6 to discover just exactly what Xavier's ROTC cadets give up their mornings and weekends to do.

Every morning before the sun comes up, before the caf opens, and before The New York Times makes its way to the newsstands, about 80 Xavier students are wide awake, and ready to go.

Xavier’s military history is a tradition older than basketball on campus. There has been a military science program at Xavier since 1877. The current ROTC program has been around since 1936. That was when ROTC was mandatory for all able-bodied freshmen and sophomores. [full story]

Staff Editorial: Shuttle shenanigans

Few people would disagree that there is significant room for improvement with the Xavier shuttle system. However, no one seems that motivated to actually improve the system.

While investigating the shuttle system over the past week, it has become rather clear to the Newswire that there is not one specific person who can say that he or she is in charge of overseeing all aspects of the shuttle.

We think that this is a significant problem. The plethora of people who manage different aspects of the shuttle seem rather unclear as to what their specific duties are. [full article]

Wednesday

This week, dear friends, we shall embark on a pictorial adventure! It’ll be just like those picture books you loved when you were a child. Except without the morality. Or the substance. Or the storyline. Otherwise, it’ll be just like being a kid again!

Okay, so, once upon a time there was this student (That’s you!) reading this newspaper column (That’s this!) and having a grand old time (Just like you are!).

Once the student put down this paper (Don’t you dare!), he/she/it (Whatever you are, weirdo) got really bored.

“Wah!” The student cried for hours! Oh, if you had heard the wailing! (Shut up!!!)[full week]
