The best of the best

What a whirlwind of a year it’s been.

I know everyone says this every year, but it truly feels like 2006-07 flew by faster than the Campus Police golf cart on its way to the Pig Roast.

Is it really time to start looking for a better summer job than assistant manager at Pizza Hut (unless, of course, you’re a senior)? [full story]

Coming Soon: Trouble

I just heard Ann Coulter is coming to speak at Xavier next fall, which is great—if you like comedy and happen to find incessant fact-spinning and personal-attacks hilarious. Or if you are a raging conservative.

For those of you who don’t know, Coulter is like the Michael Moore of the other side. Every stance she takes on an issue is pro-Republican and anti-Democrat, without exception. [full article]

Baseball routs regional rivals

Starting off slowly, the Musketeers trailed by a score of 3-0 after three innings. Following unsuccessful efforts in the fifth and sixth innings, Xavier came alive in the seventh to blow the game open with eight runs on seven hits. The Bearcats contributed to Xavier’s big inning by committing three costly errors. [full story]

A bona fide Bonnaroo bash

“I want Bonnaroo to belong to this generation and I want Bonnaroo to stand on its own as being something really hip and special for this time.”

That’s what a fiesty Ben Harper said last Tuesday in a press conference when asked about Bonnaroo’s recent comparisons to Woodstock. [full story]

Wednesday

At this time of the year, it gets pretty normal for people to reminisce. Seniors are graduating, preparing themselves for the real world and sucking every last moment of socially accepted drinking out of their last few precious weeks here.

As I walk slowly around campus, taking in all the sights and sounds, I find it’s easy to fall into the trap of making every event into a cheesy after-school special.

Although I don’t necessarily think it’s healthy to live in constant nostalgia since you miss out on the present, I do think there’s something to be said for recognizing precious moments.
