Gold medal grounds: Xavier has received the national 2006 Grand Award from the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) as No. 1 in the country for urban university landscaping. “Many people have put a lot of hard work into making this campus a beautiful place,” said Walter Bonvell, Xavier grounds foreman who has worked here for the past 25 years.
“Everyone in Physical Plant plays a part—the 12 full-time groundskeepers, the three to five seasonal groundskeepers, the electricians who do the lighting, the carpenters who build ornamental fencing, the plumbers who repair our irrigation systems and the administrators who support our efforts.” -XU

Cheerleaders get basketball points
It takes a lot to cheer for one of Xavier’s cheerleading squads. The white squad cheers for the women’s basketball games, while the blue squad cheers for the men. Both teams practice together twice a week for a total of five hours.
As of now, most of Xavier’s students have their schedules planned out for next semester—and even though many of you probably did not get every class you wanted, at least it’s all done, right? Yet, even with it all finished, did anyone really feel completely relieved after scheduling that last class? This all too familiar feeling can in many cases be thanks to what we endearingly call “core.” [full article]

Normally, when I sit down to write this column, I am juggling many things. Yes, I mean literally juggling. There are three small kittens that I stole from the judge that are continuously thrown into the air with my left hand, two lit torches and a bottle of Sunny Delight being juggled in my right hand.
When I’m feeling particularly ambitious, I switch around the contents of the two hands back and forth while doing an Irish jig to the soundtrack from the movie “The Big Lebowski.” I don’t want to toot my own horn but...well...ahem...toot.
If I’m not literally juggling, I’m at least multi-tasking by making phone calls, answering emails and reading the latest news updates.
