Ask Mr. Bargain

Dear Mister Bargain,

I’m working on a theology paper, but I’m "having trouble citing my sources" (Prof. Jeeter).

Frazzled in Cincinnati (OH 45229).

It could be a new genre

David Richards is truly a renaissance man. After fronting a number of grindcore bands in his dodgy yet productive past, he has made the jump to more of an expansive, possibly too inclusive sound. With a fresh outlook on life and a brand new backing band, the Clif-tones, his new album is truly an exercise in excess.

Everything from the song titles to instrumentation and song structures on their self-titled sophomore release goes well beyond anything we are used to. While their 2003 release, "2000 Spaceships MADE of Wickersticks," was a murky and electronically-tinged debut, this album does a complete 180. Damp synthesizers are replaced by buzzing guitars and glockenspiels. The vocals, run primarily through vocoder on the last album, are now clear and bright. If the last album felt too dark, then have no fear; David Richards seeks to lend you a helping hand.
