2005 is long gone, finally giving us the distance necessary to separate the wheat from the chaff. With our newfound sagacity in the year 2006, we can look back over the past year’s music and see what has truly stood the test of time.

The year 2005 saw folk music become popular again. Led by the likes of the prophet Devendra himself, acoustic music with slower tempos commanded our attention. Along with Devendra’s California cronies, the kids from Saddle Creek are not only still kicking but developing musically. Add to that mix the only multi-intrumentalist named Sufjan that I know and you’ve got yourself the beginnings of a musical movement. -Diversions Editor
