Ohio election issues

Ohio’s state elections are just days away, and this time much is at stake: our election laws themselves, that is.

Topping the agenda for the voters are questions of election reform. Issues 2, 3, 4 and 5 propose amendments to the Ohio Constitution.

These amendments, backed by the group Reform Ohio Now, would make sweeping changes to the way elections are carried out here in the buckeye state.

 The real face of homelessness

As an alumnus of Xavier University, it warms my heart to see that some time-honored student traditions never die out.

October wanes into November, and the academic mall is filled with the sights of turning leaves, the smells of soft, rain kissed earth, and the sounds of students ranting about the cardboard boxes during Shantytown week.

You don’t even know

I am writing in response to the staff editorial entitled "Shantytown Rock," featured in the Oct. 26 edition of the Newswire. After just three short paragraphs, I was disappointed by the irresponsible journalism represented in its words.

Yes, editorials are opportunities to express opinions, but those opinions should be grounded in facts, especially when written by people with experience in journalism.

So, maybe we did start the fire

As your faithful Opinions and Editorials section editor, nothing tickles my fancy more than seeing my email box showing "new emails" that aren’t trying to get me to buy projection screen televisions.

Why? Well, when people write in to me, it usually means that I don’t have to write! Oh, and I cannot afford a projection screen television. How sad.
