Brian’s Song:
‘California, here we come’

In talking to the general Xavier student body over the course of the past month, I have to come to understand that if you are reading this fine column series known as "Brian’s Song," then you probably fall into one of the following three categories: A, a big sports fan, B, a close friend, or C, someone extremely bored and/or procrastinating.

While I’m not one who regularly separates people into different categories (Bingo players excluded), I believe it is a fairly accurate picture of the Newswire-Sports readership population.

Schureck scores first win
Men’s soccer beats Bowling green in home opener

It took almost two weeks, but head coach Dave Schureck finally got his first win as the Musketeers routed Bowling Green, 5-0, on Wednesday night at the Xavier Soccer Complex.

"It feels great to get that first win," said Schurek after the game. "They all feel good."

Xavier started the scoring in the 37th minute, as junior Matt Kmetz bent a free kick from just outside the penalty box past BG goalkeeper Paul Shoemaker and into the corner of the net.
