This weekend, a group of Xavier students and staff
will travel to Georgia to participate in a protest against a government-run
military school.
The school has a history of controversy concerning its goals, its
teachings, and the actions of its graduates.
On Monday Nov. 10, the South Asian Society was
granted full club status by the Student Government Association.
The founding members of the organization, sophomore Gaurav Marwaha
and freshman Faraaz Rahmen, noticed many ethnic clubs around campus
upon their arrivals at Xavier, but none that spread awareness of
the ethnicities in South Asia.
Gaurav decided to see what the level of interest for a South Asian
Society at Xavier would be, both amongst students and faculty.
He said he was surprised with the level of interest from both groups.
