Brig. Gen. Michael X. Garrett, Class of 1984, is nominated for a second star by President Obama

President Barack Obama has nominated Xavier alumnus Brig. Gen. Michael X. Garrett for a second star. The Pentagon announced the nomination last month, according to the Fayetteville Observer in Fayetteville, NC.
Garrett is chief of staff of Fort Bragg and the 18th Airborne Corps, located in Fayetteville. Garrett is serving in Iraq as chief of staff of the 18th Airborne Corps and deputy chief of staff of U.S. Forces-Iraq.
Garrett, from Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Xavier in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in criminalistics. Xavier magazine featured him in a profile in the Fall 2010 issue.
Garrett previously was deputy commanding general of U.S. Army Recruiting Command. He deployed to Afghanistan as chief of current operations for Combined Joint Task Force 180 while previously assigned to Fort Bragg. He deployed to Iraq while commanding the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) of the 25th Infantry Division (Light) at Fort Richardson, Alaska.
