A New Online Presence for Xavier
University launches new look for home page, colleges, news and calendar
Beginning this morning, Xavier has a new look to those visiting from the web. The University launched a new home page today that not only gives the site a bolder, more dramatic look, but also offers a host of new and better functions.
"We're putting a fresh face on the site," says Megan Hook, director for web development. "We also wanted to streamline the navigation, particularly the navigation that leads to all of the different academic programs that the University offers. Users are now just one click away from information about any of the University's undergraduate, graduate/licensure or part-time/weekend programs."
The new home page's most dramatic change is the addition of a large photo of campus or campus life that changes every time a visitor enters the site. There are 30-plus photos in all. Another new feature to the home page is a space that highlights areas that the University sees as interesting, such as a virtual tour of the University, or issues it sees as strategic or important, such as the question, "What is a Jesuit university?"
The changes go beyond the home page, though. Within the site, new pages were created in conjunction with and for each of the University's three colleges (business, arts and sciences and social sciences), the departments within them and the various programs available throughout campus. Nearly 900 pages were added or rebuilt, with the goal of giving the entire University web site a consistent look and feel. A site for the division of information resources was also added.
As a means of helping employees spread news and events that are happening in those departments, the site also includes a new tool that will allow for direct input of events into the University's main calendar. This tool will be available to members of the University community shortly.
Some areas of the site remain the same, including the search engine, a quicklinks menu for popular sites and three news items posted daily.
The site was developed in conjunction with Innersync Studio, Inc. and a variety of members of the Xavier community.
