International Students Society hosts 7th annual international trivia competition
WorldQuest 2008 takes place Feb. 22 in the Cintas Center
02/19/08The office of international student services and the International Students Society are hosting the 7th annual WorldQuest, an international trivia game for the campus community, on Friday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m. Teams of eight will gather in the Cintas Center Banquet Room for ethnic food, entertainment, fellowship, competition and prizes.
WorldQuest originated at the World Affairs Council (WAC) in Charlotte, N.C., and was brought to Cincinnati by the local WAC in May 2001. Historically, WorldQuest allows students, faculty and staff to interact across cultural, racial and ethnic lines, forge connections and begin conversations in an informal setting. The goals of Xavier’s WorldQuest competition are to increase international understanding, raise funds for study abroad and international grants, and create an enjoyable community event that brings together a diverse group of people. Questions relate to geography, current affairs, pop culture, politics, people, world traditions, arts, flags and more.
Senior business major, Shigeki Tanabe is excited about the growth in WorldQuest’s popularity. In past years, he has recruited his economics and marketing professors to participate in the event. “WorldQuest is a really fun opportunity for students to interact with faculty and staff, and gain knowledge in the process.” Tanabe says.
