Expert panel discusses impact and welfare of immigrants in the United States
'A Critical Conversation on Immigration' takes place Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Gallagher Theater
11/06/07Local authorities and Homeland Security are ratcheting up efforts to detain immigrants in Cincinnati. The recent raid, arrests and deportations of Latin American workers at Koch Foods is one example of the national trend of cracking down on undocumented workers. A panel discussion with local, national and international experts on the impact and welfare of immigrants in the United States is taking place Thursday, Nov. 8, from 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m., in the Gallagher Theater.
Titled "A Critical Conversation on Immigration," the discussion includes panelists Oscar Chacón, the executive director of National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities in Chicago; Matt Eisen, a youth and gang violence consultant in El Salvador; Sylvia Castellanos, the director of the Coalition for the Rights and Dignity of Immigrants in Cincinnati; and Tony Stieritz, the director of social action for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
This event is sponsored by the Community Building Institue, Peace and Justice Programs, the Romero International Center, Academic Service Learning, the Department of Theology and the Women’s Center.
