Update Your Records
Make sure your beneficiaries and dependents are listed correctly
08/21/07As we head into the new school year, the office of human resources would like to remind you to check and update your University personnel records in several important areas:
• Check to make sure you have the correct beneficiary or beneficiaries listed for both your retirement and life insurance. Employees often initially name a beneficiary and then forget to make changes as life circumstances shift. To change your retirement beneficiary, contact TIAA-Cref at www.tiaa-cref.org or call 800 842-2776. To change your life insurance beneficiary, contact the office of human resources at firstname.lastname@example.org
• It's also important to keep your dependents’ list current. Children must be full-time students to be covered under your University dental plan. It’s critical that you respond quickly and directly to your dental carrier when the carrier contacts you to verify full-time student status: Failure to respond results in immediate termination of coverage.
In addition, your children can be covered under your health insurance up to age 24, as long as they can be claimed as an exemption on your tax return. If you need to change information regarding health insurance, contact Toni Richardson in the office of human resources at ext. 3639.
