New program targets supervisors, program managers
06/19/07The Xavier University employee leadership development program launches its first class this fall. The nine-month program is designed to provide high-performing supervisors and program managers with a broader and deeper understanding of the myriad functions performed by offices across the University and the challenges faced by Xavier and by higher education in the United States. It consists of one full-day session per month beginning in September and concluding in May 2008. Participants complete the program as a cohort group of eight to 10 individuals.
Expected program topics include: leading groups and organizations, mission based leadership, techniques for improving interpersonal influence and effectiveness, academic issues in higher education, finance and economics in higher education, keeping up with the changing culture and needs of students, understanding and managing diversity in University life, legal issues in higher education, the future of technology in higher education, and strategic planning/implementing Xavier’s strategic plan.
Current employees who hold a position supervising other Xavier continuing employees and/or are responsible for program management, have three or more years employment experience at Xavier, and have demonstrated excellent performance in positions held at Xavier are eligible for membership in the first cohort group.
Employees who are interested in participating in the Leadership Development Program must submit a completed application and a letter of recommendation from their current supervisor to Connie Perme (ML 4641) in the office of human resources by August 1, 2007.
A screening committee selected from the president’s administrative council will review the completed materials and conduct a brief interview with each applicant before making recommendations to the President of the cohort group members.
