Montessori lab school holding open house
Visitors can tour classrooms, meet staff
01/16/07The University’s Montessori lab school is holding an open house on Sunday, Jan. 28, from 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. The school is located in the Joseph Building, 1024 Dana Ave., Room 111. This event is free and open to the public.
Visitors are discussing the Montessori philosophy and its application, taking a tour of the classrooms, and meeting the staff. The lab school has two classrooms serving ages 3-6 and 6-9.
The school is the cornerstone of the Xavier Montessori teacher education program. It serves as a model of developmental theory in action not only for Xavier Montessori teacher education students, but also for students in the traditional teacher education program and the community at large.
The Montessori teacher education program and lab school have national and international stature and are both highly regarded in the Montessori world.
Xavier University was the first college or university in the United States to offer a master’s degree (1965) and the first to offer a bachelor’s degree (1975) in Montessori education. Xavier also offers certification in Montessori education.
