President of Fidelity Brokerage Co. headlines Distinguished Speakers Series on Nov. 30
Ellyn McColgan delivers talk, 'Confronting America's Retirement Challenge,' at 8:00 a.m. in Duff Banquet Center
11/01/06Ellyn McColgan, president of Fidelity Brokerage Co., is speaking on Thursday, Nov. 30, as part of the Williams College of Business Distinguished Speakers Series. She delivers her talk, "Confronting America's Retirement Challenge," at 8:00 a.m. in the Duff Banquet Center.
Since joining Fidelity Investments in 1990, McColgan has developed a reputation as a steady builder of businesses. She became president of Fidelity Brokerage in 2002 and is responsible for management of the firm’s retail and institutional brokerage businesses. While the majority of her Fidelity career has been spent within the firm’s retirement business, her first industry job after graduate school was in the brokerage industry with Shearson Lehman Brothers in New York, where she worked as a trainee in the wire room. She was named one of Fortune magazine’s "50 Most Powerful Women in Business" in 2005 and 2006.
A Jersey City, N.J., native, McColgan is a vice chair of the board of the Securities Industry Association, an overseer of the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston, and a member of the board of directors of Pro-Build. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Montclair State College in New Jersey and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
The annual series brings top-level business, academic and political leaders to Xavier’s campus to discuss work issues, introduce new ideas, generate discussion and further the educational mission of the college. Additionally, students, faculty, alumni and members of the business community have the opportunity to interact with the speaker at each event.
