Toolbox provides improv, performance sketches; alumnus presents "Whirled News Tonight"
04/18/06Two comedy shows are taking place at the Gallagher Student Center April 28-29 starting with the Xavier Players' Toolbox, an evening of original sketch comedy and improvisation at 9:00 p.m. both nights. The cast is doing improv and performance sketches written by students. Brianna Hansen, the winner of the Last Muskie Standing stand-up comedy competition, is directing the production. April Sauline is producing the show. Tickets are $3 and go on sale Monday, April 24, at the box office at 513 745-3939 or 513 745-3576.
Xavier alumnus, John P. Glynn, is also performing on campus with the "Whirled News Tonight," the longest-running improvised satire in Chicago, on Friday, April 28, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 513 745-3939.
As audience members enter the theater, they're invited to clip articles from a variety of local and national periodicals and pin them up to bulletin boards on stage. Then, the cast chooses articles at random and uses them to improvise scenes.
