Choral ensembles present annual Lessons and Carols at Bellarmine

Department of music teaming with office of campus ministry for prayers, hymns, readings

Choral ensembles from the department of music and the office of campus ministry are presenting the annual Lessons and Carols service on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Bellarmine Chapel.

The campus ministry choir includes the Schola Cantorum, 10:00 p.m. Mass choir and inaugural choir, all under the direction of director for music Scot Buzza. Choirs from the
department of music are the concert choir and vocal chamber ensemble, both conducted by Tom Merrill, director for choral activities.

Joining the choirs are a wind quintet led by Leonid Sirotkin. The choral presentations alternate with readings from scripture, prayers and hymns.

Featured choral works include “Ave Maris Stella” by Trond Kverno, “O Heiland Reiss” by Brahms, “In Dulci Jubilo” by Schedit, “Herr Gott” by Mendelssohn, “Maiden Carol” by Britten as well as many other choral compositions from the 16th through the 21st centuries.
