Pop star to perform at the Cintas Center
Jason Mraz headlines first concert of the year with Dropping Daylight and Bushwalla as opening acts
09/08/05Pop star Jason Mraz, the popular singer-songwriter known for the songs "The Remedy," "Curbside Prophet" and the recently released "Wordplay," is coming to the University, performing in concert at the Cintas Center on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 9:00 p.m.
The concert is part of Mraz's tour for his new CD, "Mr. A-Z," which was released in July and debuted at No. 1 on several charts. His 2002 debut CD, "Waiting for My Rocket to Come," reached the platinum level.
Known for his energetic live performances, the 28-year-old Mraz played more than 260 live shows in 2003, including a series of headlining tours and support roles with Coldplay, Bob Dylan, The Dave Matthews Band, Jewel and David Gray.
"He’s probably on the same caliber as John Mayer," Collin Brum, special events chair for the University's student activities council, told the Xavier Newswire. "He has a classically trained voice, which makes his style unique. Plus, he’s definitely known for his live shows, which usually draw a lot of people."
The concert is sponsored by the University's student activities council, which explored a number of options during the summer in an effort to find quality music that was also affordable.
"The reason we are able to bring Jason Mraz," said Brum, "is because the Xavier students have been so receptive to the other shows we’ve brought and have been willing to try the music, whether if it’s new to them or not. Jason Mraz is kind of a result of that and if we want to keep getting bigger and bigger, we need more Xavier students to come out to this show. We are trying to set a record for attendance."
Dropping Daylight and Bushwalla are set to be the concert's opening acts.
Tickets for the concert are $15 for students and $25 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com or at any TicketMaster location.
