Alumni gather for 12th Reunion Weekend
Events included reception for 1955 football team and tour and lunch at Marion Hall for former residents
06/01/05Xavier University and Edgecliff College alumni gathered on campus for the 2005 Reunion Weekend, June 2-5, to renew old friendships, make new ones and recapture college memories. The celebration honored anniversary classes whose graduation year ends in a 5 or an 0 (i.e. 1955, 1980 etc.).
This was the 12th year for Reunion Weekend and hundreds of alumni were expected at this year’s event, including members of the 1955 football team. A reception for the team was held Friday, June 3, from 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m., at Ryan’s Pub in the Gallagher Student Center.
There was also a special reunion for alumni who lived in Marion Hall, now known as the Enger House. The North Avondale house and its Beaux-Arts classical style served as a home for students until 1991. Following the sale of the building by the University, the house became a private residence again, and the present owners opened the home to its former occupants for a tour and lunch.
During the weekend, alumni participated in events such as a golf scramble, field trips and class cocktail parties. They also took part in the 8th annual Classes Without Quizzes seminars. Topics for the eight seminars included researching your family tree, photography, healthy eating on the run and faux painting.
“Reunion Weekend provides a great opportunity for alumni from across the country to return to campus to rekindle friendships and experience the campus as it is today and college life as it exists in the year 2005,” says Mary Ann Schomaker, assistant director for alumni programs.
The reunion wrapped on Sunday, June 5, with a reunion memorial Mass at 9:00 a.m. in the Cintas Center followed by the Half-Century Club Brunch. The brunch honored Xavier and Edgecliff class members of 1955 who were inducted into the Half-Century Club.
Those attending had the option of staying at one of the on-campus residence halls to help relive their college days.
